The Monroe Doctrine is pretty far down the list of US-China friction points. It is very difficult to imagine China attempting to colonize any country in the Western Hemisphere, and it is extremely difficult to imagine a successful colonization of Nicaragua. Other people have tried, if you know what I mean.
The big problem is going to be some trigger-happy junior officer who has been sitting on a sand bar in the South China Sea for too many months. These things can get out of control rapidly, and there has been a lot of irresponsible talk, on both sides.
